According to, a 5-year survival rate for those diagnosed with oral cancer is about 64 percent, however, if detected early, the chances for surviving may be higher. Causes of Oral Cancer

Oral cancer may occur if you excessively consume alcohol and smoke cigarettes. The likelihood of developing oral cancer tends to increase in patients over 40 years old. If you notice symptoms like a sore throat, hoarseness, loose teeth, or swelling of the gums, you should see a dentist for checkups and evaluation. Other symptoms of the disease are a lump or thickening around the cheeks, bleeding of the mouth, difficulty chewing, difficult movement of the jaw and tongue, mouth sores, and earaches. You also need to go for screening, at least annually even if you have no signs of oral cancer.
